Y: The Last Man - Alone in a world run by women

"When a plague of unknown origin instantly kills every mammal with a Y chromosome, unemployed and unmotivated slacker Yorick Brown suddenly discovers that he is the only male left in a world inhabited solely by women." The premise of Y: The Last Man sounds like a B-movie. It isn't. Creators Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra have weaved an adult sci-fi tale with insightful social commentary, existential questions, pure action and dramatic sexual situations, populated by some of the most interesting female characters ever put on paper: Secret agents, Israeli commandos, mad scientists, ninjas, pirates, post-apocalyptic Amazons, politicians, astronauts... A movie, of course, is in the works, but you can be sure that no studio will have the guts to shoot the most controversial and best moments of this graphic novel. If you don't read it, you'll never know what the hype was all about. The series came to a conclusive end in issue #60 (Feb. 2008), so start from the beginning to avoid spoilers and enjoy the build-up.
